Ramadan

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting from dawn to sunset. The word comes from the Arabid root 'ramida' or 'ar-ramad', which means scorching heat/dryness. During this month, Muslims will not eat or drink between dawn and sunset, and instead dedicate the month to studying the Quran, introspection, and a deeper level of connection with God.

Ramadan traditionally begins upon the first sighting of the new moon and the element of fasting is a constant reminder of self-discipline and suffering of the poor for Muslims across the world.
