Rama Navami

Rama Navami is a festival celebrated by Hindus across the world that commemorates the birth of Lord Rama, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu (who is part of the holy Trinity of Hinduism).

Rama is the eponymous protagonist of the epic tale, the Ramayana (literally translating to 'the journey of Rama'), and is famed for his exile as a prince, asceticism as a hermit, and victory in rescuing his wife Sita from the demon Ravana. The story of the Ramayana continues to be a beacon of hope for many, symbolising the prevalence of righteousness as well as the ultimate triumph of light (knowledge and truth) over darkness (ignorance and evil).

Rama Navami is observed by fasting, pooja (devotional worship/rituals) and often, simply chanting the name of Rama, which is believed to bring about peace of mind, alleviate suffering, and bring a devotee to salvation.
