Bhajan

A Bhajan is any type of an Indian devotional song. It does not have a fixed form: it may be as simple as a mantra, or kirtan, or as a sophisticated as the dhrupad.

The Bhajan is normally lyrical, expressing love for the Divine. The name, a cognate of the word bhakti, meaning religious devotion, shows its importance to the bhakti movement.

The bhakti movement is the theistic devotional trend that emerged in medieval Hinduism. The movement spread from the south of India throughout the entire subcontinent in the Mughal era. This form later revolutionised into the form of Sikhism.
