South Asian Arts-uk (SAA-uk) is a centre of excellence and a talent development hub for South Asian music and dance in the UK. For over 26 years, we have identified, nurtured, and developed talent by educating, celebrating, and promoting music and dance. Our mission is to enrich lives through engagement with both traditional and contemporary South Asian arts. We are dedicated to commissioning, producing, and championing new artistic expressions while preserving cultural traditions. We aim to reflect the diversity of global communities in 21st-century Britain.
A key aspect of our work is to advocate for and share our expertise, whether as a co-commissioner, advisor, or programmer. We push boundaries and embrace a wide range of influences and practices, creating an inclusive and safe space for both emerging and established artists to grow and experiment. This approach also allows audiences to experience unique and diverse music and dance performances.
With the generous funding from PPL and support from Future Talent, we are thrilled to present our latest special project: Talent NXGen!
Our goal was to select one music creator or ensemble working in South Asian music and take them on a comprehensive journey—from concept creation and recording to potentially premiering new work and pitching to venues. Following a national call-out with a focus on underrepresented music creators, we are delighted to announce that Indian Classical musician Kirpal Singh Panesar has been chosen as the project lead.To inspire a new generation and encourage them to consider careers in the music industry, we have invited students from our SAA-uk Music Academy to shadow and follow Kirpal on his journey, providing them with lived experience and unique insights into the potential of diverse music careers.
We are beyond excited to share more about Talent NXGen over the coming year. We will be supporting underrepresented music creators at various stages of their creative journeys, helping them develop performance skills, business knowledge, and expertise in the UK music industry.
We look forward to the incredible work that will emerge from Talent NXGen and are eager to see the positive impact it will have on the next generation of music creators.
