Suhail Yusuf Khan

Suhail Yusuf Khan is a modern master of the sarangi, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, sarangi legend Ustad Sabri Khan (1927-2015). Continuing in the family tradition, Suhail draws from a rich musical heritage and is an eighth generation sarangi player.

At the age of seven Suhail started learning to play the Sarangi under the tutelage of his Uncle and Grandfather. Suhail gave his first live performance at the age of 11 and since then he has performed extensively in India and abroad covering France, Italy, South Africa, UK, the Middle East and and more.

Suhail is a multifaceted artist who is also a composer, singer and song writer; he is currently studying Ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, USA.

In 2016, Khan released Everything Sacred, a collaborative folk album with James Yorkston and Jon Thorne under the name Yorkston/Thorne/Khan. The trio went on to release two further albums, Neuk Wight Delhi All-Stars (2017) and Navarasa: Nine Emotions (2020). Khan is also a member of Welsh-Indian folk fusion group Khamira, who released their debut self-titled album in May 2017. The group includes Indian musicians and members of Welsh folk-jazz group Burum.
