Indian Dance Academy: Bharatanatyam

Join us at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds for Bharatanatyam Dance Classes every Friday during term time! 

Bharatanatyam :
Time: 5:15 pm to 6:30 pm- Beginner's dance and vocal class | 6:30 to 8:00 pm- Intermediate dance and vocal class
Dates: 18th September 2026 to 9th July 2026 (3 terms in a year) 

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes for dance and vocal.
Age: 5 years and above  

Venue: Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD), 98 Chapeltown Rd, Leeds LS7 4BH   
Tutor: Dhivya Sundararaman

Fees: £150 per term (10 weeks)/ £405 annual fee (30 weeks) inclusive of 10% discount | Sibling Discount: 10% off the total fee for both siblings when they join together | Special Student rate (Uni/College) £75 per term | A 50% discount is available for parents learning the same discipline as their child 
*ISTD exams are optional and require an additional fee beyond the standard fee.

Learning Support : 
After each class, students gain access to engaging practice videos, helpful study materials shared through our Bharatanatyam WhatsApp group and Google Classroom, along with personalised feedback and regular assessments to support their growth! 

Performance Opportunities : 
Students will have the chance to perform at vibrant community events, such as: 
  •  Navratri,  Onam, Pongal, Ugadi , Diwali 
  • PARAMPARA: Bi-annual showcase 
  • Cultural performances across Leeds and the UK 
Workshops and Bootcamps :
We provide students with opportunities to train intensively with internationally celebrated artists, offering a unique experience in dance and music that inspires them for a lifetime. Here's why they matter:

  • Deepens understanding of technique, rhythm, and expression

Dance Buddy Scheme :
Our senior students have the opportunity to grow as future educators by shadowing our tutors and assisting in beginner-level classes. This initiative offers:

  •  Professional development in Bharatanatyam 
  •  Mentorship and leadership skills 
  •  A chance to give back and inspire new learners 
  • It's a meaningful way to nurture talent, build confidence, and strengthen our dance community. 
Enrichment Programme :
We believe in breaking barriers to access the arts. Through our Enrichment Programme, students are given the unique opportunity to attend performances by renowned artists—completely free of cost. 

 Free Tickets for Students :
With support from SAA-uk, students can experience world-class dance and music performances without financial constraints. 

50% Discount for Parents : 
Parents receive half-price tickets, allowing them to accompany and support their child's artistic journey. 

This initiative is designed to:

  • Remove financial barriers to cultural enrichment 
NSCD Dance Studio facilities : 
  •  A fully sprung dance sub-floor
  • Mirrors and ballet barres
  • A comprehensive audio system and video projection or monitor playback facilities
  • Café bar and foyer: A comfortable social and relaxation area
  • Toilets and changing rooms 
  • Free parking onsite 
  • Free Wi-Fi facility
