What SAA-uk means to Meera:
“It's something that I've been really passionate about ever since joining as a child- I've seen and personally experienced that relationship. They're focused on something that people assume is niche, but it's important for people to hear about it and the fact that we're shouting about it makes me really want people to hear about it. I want to see where we can take the mission statement and how we can keep the roots intact – the roots are just as important as the flower in terms of where our values are centred.
It also keeps children linked to their heritage which is so important because it's easy to get lost and dragged into different directions! Personally, speaking as someone who really tried to carve a path away from Indian classical music in the beginning – there's a really strong sense of family, community and tradition.”
In Meera's spare time…
Meera is also a talented vocalist and tabla player. Meera enjoys reading, listening to world music and more recently during lockdown has gotten into baking!
