The duo will be accompanied on Taanpura by Guruma Smt Gunwant Kaur.
In this touching evening, the musicians express their appreciation and reverence to the musical heritage of their Gurus, the late Ustad Vilayat Khan and living legend Ustad Zakir Hussain.
The legacy of Indian Classical music is one of respect, dedication, and soul that is shared between Gurus and their learners alike.
Though rooted in ancient origins, the Indian Classical tradition has been preserved through oral tradition and carefully passed down through generations.
Ustad Dharambir Singh & Pandita Anuradha Pal perform together for the 1st time ever in UK on 1st August
Ustad Dharambir Singh has been an inspiring torchbearer of Indian Classical music. As a sensational Sitar maestro and educator, he has been amongst few to bring the artform across the world from South Asia to England. In 2011, Dharambir Singh was awarded an MBE for his contributions to music.
On the same front, Anuradha Pal has been a testament to female excellence. Making her mark as the first female Tabla player to play professionally, she has pierced through a male dominated cosm, changing on her way, the future of Indian Classical music. Anuradha pioneered innovative, audio-visual storytelling on Tabla since 2005 called, ‘Anuradha's Tablas Sing Stories', which has achieved great popularity and engagement amongst the youth & music aficionados. Her band Anuradha Pal Collective combines Folk & Spiritual music with rhythmic poetry, to present captivating renditions of ‘Ramayan on Tabla', ‘Krishna Ke Taal', 'Shiva Shakti' in which vocals, instrumentals and percussion are interwoven, like an audio- visual theatre.
Blessed by Gurus Ustads Alla Rakha, Zakir Hussain, parents Ila & Devinder Pal, Anuradha paid tribute to her Guru, leading a world record 217 Tabla players in December 2018.
Anuradha has a massive social media following and has inspired millions with her humility, creativity and passion for excellence. Hailed as a trailblazer and trendsetter by Encyclopaedia Britannica, her background score in the film ‘Gaja Gamini' was acclaimed at Cannes Film Festival.
