Summer's nearly here—and so is Sanskar 2025 —your gateway to 7 enriching days of music, creativity and connection. Whether you're a curious beginner or an emerging young musician, Sanskar offers a unique opportunity to learn, explore, and grow under the guidance of some of the UK's leading Indian Classical music teachers. Join us for an inspiring week where tradition meets imagination!
 

🌈 This Year's Theme?

A Musical Dialogue with Nature – where trees whisper melodies, birds chirp rhythms, and the whole world becomes your instrument! You'll tune in to the world around you, discovering how sounds of nature can spark your own musical creations.
 

🎵 What to Expect
 

Each day at Sanskar is thoughtfully designed to balance structured learning with play, creativity, and reflection.

🌞 Morning Assemblies begin with light yoga & meditation, helping everyone tune into the day ahead, with calm & focus.

🎼 This is followed by Riyaz—a focused, guided practice session that allows students to develop technique and expression on their chosen instrument.

🍲 A warm, homecooked vegetarian lunch is served daily to nourish body and soul, followed by fun games and outdoor play to keep energy levels high.

🎶 Afternoons are all about Svara Anubhav, a unique creative session where students explore sound, expression, and imagination. Using improvisation, storytelling, and listening exercises, this is where the magic really happens—students build confidence and experiment freely.

🎤 Each day ends with short performances, reflections, and open discussions led by tutors, students, and guest artists—a wonderful way to share progress, ideas, and joy.

🌿 Special Outdoor Day at Kirkstall Abbey – Tuesday, 5 August
 

This year's theme woul be incomplete without a real connection to nature. That's why on Tuesday, we're taking the entire school to Kirkstall Abbey, one of Leeds' most iconic and peaceful heritage sites. Surrounded by trees, skies, and centuries of history, students will create music under the open sky, respond to their surroundings through sound, sketching, writing and movement—and simply enjoy the experience of being in nature together.

It's a refreshing and grounding day for everyone, blending learning and leisure in the most beautiful setting.
 

Instruments & Teaching Team
 

At Sanskar, students choose a musical path from the following disciplines, and are grouped by experience level:

• Tabla – taught by John Ball, with visiting artist Amanpal Singh

• Sitar – led by Luke Reddin Williams with support from Kirtan Kaur

• Santoor – with acclaimed artist Eeshar Singh

• Bowed Instruments – guided by Simrandeep Kaur

• Vocals – taught by Gunwant Kaur with assistance from Sohini Kaur

We are also thrilled to welcome:

• Nabeel Khan from India – a master of the Sarangi, one of the oldest bowed instruments in India

• Jyoti Manral – bringing a gentle, expressive approach for Early Years

• Dhivya Srilakshmi – leading Yoga and Movement, helping students connect mind, body, and rhythm
