Anjali Virdee

My name is Anjali Virdee and I love music, dance and the arts.

I have been learning to play the Sitar for 9 years at SAA-uk (South Asian Arts). I also have been attending YYM (Yorkshire Young Musicians) for the past 7 years.

Since I started learning the Sitar, I have performed at the Gurdwara on Gurpurnima, on Women's day (solo performance) at Left Bank Leeds, Leeds Millennium Square, and SAA-uk's Summer School with my class.

One of my biggest achievements has been playing in London at St James's Palace on the 8th of June at the 2023 Gala concert. Another achievement was performing in the Sangeet Mahotsav: SAA-uk music academy showcase at Leeds Conservatoire.

This year, me, my 2 sisters and several other young artists co-composed a musical composition called ‘Serendipity' led by Kirpal Ji.

These are all examples of opportunities given to me because of my love of Sitar. When I get older I would like to be a performer and pass on what I have learnt over the years to others.

None of this would be possible if it wasn't for SAA-uk and their incredible teachers giving that initial push into music and the help from YYM which I'm so grateful for.
