Join us for the premiere of a powerful new commission by Saudha, created in partnership with Leeds International Concert Season and South Asian Arts UK. 

Blending Indian classical music with spoken word, this immersive performance reflects on themes of memory, trauma, healing, and resilience through poetry and the expressive power of raag. Moving through the evocative soundscapes of Raag Madhuvanti, Gaud Sarang, and other carefully chosen ragas, the performance invites audiences to experience music as a space for reflection, restoration, and connection. Each swara unfolds with intention, creating an atmosphere that soothes the mind, stirs the emotions, and speaks to our shared human experience. 

At the heart of the performance is acclaimed Indian classical vocalist, composer, and author Chandra Chakraborty. Through a series of beautifully crafted bandishes and raga recitals, she brings to life poetry by Leeds poet Tony Harrison, German Romanian poet Paul Celan, Nobel Prize winning Polish poet Wisława Szymborska, and Rabindranath Tagore, the first non European Nobel Laureate in Literature. 

The evening also features live poetry readings by T M Ahmed Kaysher and performance poet and fiction writer Shree Ganguly, whose words intertwine with the music to create a compelling artistic dialogue. They are joined by Amith Dey on harmonium and Aniruddha Mukherjee on tabla, whose sensitive accompaniment completes this rich tapestry of sound and storytelling. 

This moving new work offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience the healing potential of poetry and Indian classical music, where history, memory, and artistic expression come together in a deeply resonant performance.
