Simrandeep Kaur

Simrandeep Kaur is the UK's only female exponent of the Taus, a rare bowed instrument deeply rooted in Hindustani and Gurbani music traditions.

Her journey in Indian classical music includes rigorous training under Bhai Siripal Singh Ji in Gurbani Sangeet and Taus techniques, and Ms. Shruti Kumar (disciple of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty) in Hindustani vocals. She continues to develop her artistry under the advanced mentorship of Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE.

As a musician, performer, and educator specialising in South Asian early years music, Simrandeep's influence has been profound, earning her recognition as a Community Musician by His Majesty King Charles III at Windsor Castle in 2025.

A passionate educator, Simrandeep plays a key role at SAA-uk's Music Academy, tutoring students from early years to adults in Taus and Gurbani Sangeet. She has also led transformative community projects such as The Pond Project, delivering music workshops to over 200 children, and Thread Re-imagined, a creative initiative blending Indian classical motifs with Yorkshire's rich textile heritage.

DBS-certified and fluent in multiple languages, Simrandeep expertly combines tradition with innovation through cross-cultural collaborations and teaching, making her a dynamic and vital force in today's global music scene.

Her performances include prestigious stages such as the historic Harivallabh Sangeet Pratiyogata in India and the Sikhlens Film Festival. Most recently, she captivated audiences with a solo Taus performance for International Women's Day alongside the Annapurna Indian Dance Company in 2025.
