Kirtan Kaur Virdee

Kirtan has been learning the sitar since the age of four, beginning her musical journey at SAA-uk's Music Academy.

What started as a curious spark has blossomed into a deep passion, and today, she has come full circle—now nurturing the next generation of young sitarists as a tutor at the very place where her love for music began.

Reflecting on her journey, Kirtan shares, “I am so grateful to have been learning the sitar for 14 years. In those, I have developed many skills including concentration, commitment and discipline. But possibly the most valuable is the connection I have gained to the music. It truly is a gift and has allowed me to explore my emotions and creativity like nothing else.”

Her dedication to the instrument goes far beyond the technical—it's a relationship rooted in emotion, growth, and identity.

Through teaching, Kirtan hopes to pass on not just technique, but the sense of wonder, self-expression, and cultural richness that the sitar continues to bring into her life.
