Santoor

Our Santoor Academy is led by Eeshar Singh.

Santoor students begin by learning how to sit with the instrument, hold the wooden hammers and identify the strings. They are introduced to Sargams and different note patterns, helping them become familiar with the instrument and develop coordination between both hands.

As they progress, students begin working with melodies and Raags, learning how to play within the structure of a Raag and developing their understanding of melody and rhythm. They also work on improvisation, speed and different techniques, gradually building their repertoire and confidence on the instrument.

Throughout their learning, students are introduced to the work and legacy of artists including Pandit Bhajan Sopori, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Rahul Sharma, Takahiro Arai, Kamaljit Kaur, Abhay Rustum Sopori and Ustad Harjinderpal Singh Ji, a senior disciple of Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma.

Program Details

Fees: £120 per term (10 weeks) / £360 annual fee (30 weeks)
Duration: 45 minutes or 1 hour
Age: 4 years and above
Classes: 10 classes per term

Sunday
Juniors: 4:00pm – 4:45pm
Foundations: 4:45pm – 6:15pm
Intermediate: 6:15pm – 7:30pm
