As winter softens and the world tilts gently toward light, we gather on the threshold of the Spring Equinox—a moment of balance, renewal and quiet awakening.

In the Hindu calendar, this period marks the beginning of the month of Chaitra, the first month of the traditional lunar year, a time symbolising creation, new energy and fresh intentions. It is in this spirit of rebirth that we welcome Pandit Prattyush Banerjee to Leeds.

Discover the magic of the sarod (from the family of Lute) reimagined. Pandit Prattyush Banerjee—internationally acclaimed for both his artistry and his pioneering innovations in sarod performance and instrument design—brings a rare blend of heritage, imagination and sonic daring to the stage.

Deeply rooted in the Senia Shahjahanpur gharana, his music is shaped by a lifetime of listening: the nuance of vocal music, the mathematical clarity of tabla, and even the harmonic sensibilities of Western classical piano.

His sound moves effortlessly between soulful introspection and dazzling speed, carrying listeners into a world that feels both ancient and luminously new.

At his side is Shahbaz Hussain, one of Europe's foremost tabla maestros. His rhythmic brilliance and refined sensitivity elevate the performance into a true dialogue—melody and rhythm in constant, creative conversation. Together, they craft an evening of artistry, invention and emotional depth.

This is not simply a concert. It is a celebration of renewal, of lineage meeting innovation, and of the quiet power of music to open something within us as one season gives way to another.

Whether you are a lifelong rasika or discovering Indian classical music for the first time, this performance invites you into a soundscape that lingers long after the final note fades.
