A rare and compelling musical experience presents Allied with Nature, an evening that explores sound at the meeting point of culture and the natural world.

Rooted in the belief that music and environment are inseparable, the project brings live performance and authentic field recordings together, allowing the voices of the planet to become part of the composition itself.

Created by British guitarist Jack Jennings in collaboration with Cuban violinist Omar Puente, percussionist Arthur Newell and bassist Domenico Angarano, the work draws on Indian raga, jazz and improvisatory traditions.

At its core are field recordings captured by wildlife sound recordist Martyn Stewart OBE, whose decades of documenting ecosystems around the world provide a rich sonic foundation. Birdsong, wind, water and animal calls are not treated as background ambience but as equal musical partners, shaping rhythm, melody and atmosphere.

Compositions such as Jungle Train, Evening Prayer and Spirit at Play reflect this approach, where instrumental lines respond directly to the textures and patterns of the natural soundscape. The result is music that feels grounded and spacious, attentive to detail and alive to its surroundings.

Allied with Nature offers audiences an opportunity to listen differently, recalling music's earliest origins in forests, rivers and open landscapes while presenting a contemporary performance that is both thoughtful and immersive.

Getting There
The Howard Assembly Room is located on New Briggate in the heart of Leeds city centre, adjacent to the Leeds Grand Theatre. It is approximately a ten minute walk from Leeds bus station and about a fifteen minute walk from Leeds train station, with services running through the city centre and stopping on The Headrow, Vicar Lane and Boar Lane, all within easy walking distance of the venue.

Parking in the city centre is available in several public car parks including Q Park St Johns, Q Park The Light, NCP The Core and Q Park Albion Street should you be arriving by car, though many visitors choose public transport or walking, particularly at busy times.

An Evening in Leeds
Before or after the performance there are relaxed dining and social options close to the venue and around Millennium Square. For a laid back meal try somewhere like Farmhouse or The Cut and Craft Leeds, or enjoy modern British cuisine at Ox Club. For international flavours consider Zaap Thai Street Food Leeds or Turtle Bay Leeds. If you prefer a more relaxed café experience, nearby spots like The Union Coffee House and Stage Espresso and Brewbar offer excellent coffee and informal seating.

For those wishing to extend their cultural experience in the city, the nearby Leeds Art Gallery and the adjacent Henry Moore Institute offer free entry and world class exhibitions just minutes on foot from the venue. Millennium Square itself is a lively public space with occasional outdoor events and easy access to other attractions such as Leeds City Museum or the shopping streets of Briggate and the Victoria Quarter.
