Poetry Competition

We at SAA-uk are opening our doors to poets and creative writers for the creation of 1 short ghazal (of 10-15 lines) responding to a theme of either longing, memories, love, or the seasons, to mark the 10th anniversary of the ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh's passing. Submissions may be in Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu or English, but all submissions in South Asian languages must have an English translation for our non- South Asian audiences.

Here are some pointers for
a basic ghazal structure - but for newcomers to poetry, feel free to try out a poem!

The winner will have their ghazal read as an opening tribute to the great poet, kickstarting a wonderful ghazal concert by Tauseef Akhtar, one of Jagjit Singh's closest students. The winner will also get 2 complimentary tickets to attend and enjoy!

Email your submissions or any questions to arts@saa-uk.org and get writing now – deadlines close on Friday 15th October 2021 at 5pm!
