NAARi: is a celebration of the female spirit through music. Thanks to funding from PRS Foundation
, we are working with Roopa Panesar
, esteemed musician based in Leicester. Our objectives are to showcase some of the best of female artists in the UK and inspire a new generation of young female musicians from across England.
At SAA-uk we pride ourselves on working with artists who embody our core mission, to honour the traditional and facilitate contemporary innovation. Few artists embody both principles as well as one of the UK's most eminent Sitarist, Roopa Panesar. Having toured throughout the US, Europe and the UK, Roopa's style has captivated thousands. Roopa has performed for us numerous times over the years, and every time we are blown away by her talent.
The NAARi project is split into two musical outcomes, which will make up the final performance. The first, an original composition from Roopa
. Using the rich language of Indian Classical Music and the unique sound of the sitar to create a new music expression, which explores NAARi – the Women. With additional Voice, Santoor, and sound provided by a co-musician/creator Kaviraj Singh
. The second, is a group composition for four young gifted and talented female sitarist from Leeds, Bradford and Leicester
. Guided by Roopa, the students will have developed their musicality and have the chance to express their concepts as individuals and as a group.
Through taking part in NAARi, the students will push themselves to achieve excellence. Which will fortify their confidence as performing artists, whilst also addressing a disparity of the ratio of female students that decide to take up music professionally as young adults.NAARi is supported by PRS Foundation's The Open Fund.Show your support to the artists of the future, please consider becoming a regular donor, or make a one off donation today
