South Asian Arts-uk and Bradford Music Education Hub, in collaboration with Drum the Bass, proudly present the "Young Croydon Composers" project, an exciting new chapter in cross-cultural, cross-genre musical collaboration. This initiative brings together young musicians from Bradford, Leeds, and across West Yorkshire to compose, arrange, and perform original music.
Under the expert guidance of award-winning mentors Shri Sriram and Dennis Rollins MBE, 20 talented participants have created four unique pieces, arranged for brass band, and are ready to share them with the world. Prepare to be moved by an afternoon of music that embodies the power of collaboration, blending diverse cultural influences and genres.
Shri Sriram:
A highly acclaimed composer, musician, and producer, Shri began his musical journey training on the tabla before developing his own distinctive style on the self-made fretless bass. A pioneer of the UK's Asian Underground scene, Shri has performed globally and worked with artists across many genres. His credits include performances at Glastonbury, Jools Holland, Montreux, and London Jazz Festivals, and collaborations with De La Soul, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Kronos Quartet, and Asha Bhosle, among others.
Dennis Rollins MBE
: Known for his excellence as a performer and educator, Dennis Rollins has worked with some of the biggest names in jazz and pop, including Courtney Pine, Jamiroquai, Blur, and The Brand-New Heavies. As a bandleader, his group Badbone & Co won the BBC Jazz Award in 2006, and he was named Trombonist of the Year at the British Jazz Awards. He has recorded five critically acclaimed albums and has taught across UK universities, delivering numerous educational workshops.
