Tritiya Prakriti, meaning quite literally ‘Third Gender', is a brand-new South Asian dance piece exploring the role of non-binary people in ancient Hindu mythology.
Today, the concept of Tritiya Prakriti is seldom discussed or easily found within Indian historical and scriptural canon. However, this identity was not only acknowledged but highly respected in Vedic society.
The piece, developed by Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer
Santosh Menon
, aims to take audiences through a noble system from the past, with emphasis on the urgency and importance of inclusiveness in today's world.
