As we approach this year's Summer Solstice, the day marking the beginning of astronomical summer in the Northern Hemisphere, we are going online and bringing fresh sounds from around the world directly to your home, garden, or anywhere you might be, from sunset on Sunday 20th June to sunrise on Monday 21st June.
In honour of our 10th Summer Solstice Festival this year, we are back with another all-night concert, this time in celebration of the VOICE, the most universal form of Indian classical music!
Vocal music has historically paved the way for many other forms of music, as it became the performative style that many instrumentalists aspired to, in order to create a smooth and immersive listening experience for their audience. This year, we at SAA-uk are dedicating our annual dusk-to-dawn concert to various forms and styles of South Asian singing – whoever you are and wherever you're from, there's something for everyone!
As we tentatively emerge out of the darkness of the past year, we are taking the opportunity to present vocal music that is performed not only to welcome in the longest day of the year, but also to embrace a new dawn for the betterment and solace of humanity.
