South Asian classical music is an intricate art rooted in a rich heritage and history. Our Raag & Taal Masterclasses, which take place twice every term, are designed to give you the opportunity to deepen your skill, understanding and awareness of this timeless art form, so that you are equipped to take the reins and flourish in your own practice.  

This time the theme of the Raag & Taal Masterclass is ‘Sangat' where the eminent musicians will help the students become more aware of each other when playing together. Aural skills are an important part of playing together in South Asian classical music as the musicians are constantly communicating and giving each other space to improvise while they simultaneously play as a cohesive entity thereby elevating the listening experience. 

Delivering the masterclass is none other than leading exponent in the Hindustani classical tradition and one of the UK's most prominent sitarists, Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE. Joining him is special guest Sri Zuheb Ahmed Khan, a young Tabla artist who has won hearts in India and abroad. Zuheb ji is currently touring in the UK with the Jazz band ‘Yaatri'. 

This masterclass is the perfect opportunity for all who have an intermediate understanding of Hindustani classical music and are ready to take the next steps in their learning journey. 

The masterclass is free to attend for SAA-uk's registered students!  If you are not a student at SAA-uk you are still welcome to attend this masterclass. Instrumentalists (Tabla, Sitar, Santoor, Dilruba, and Sarangi) and Hindustani vocalists with some experience and/or strong technical abilities are encouraged to join for just £25.
