SAA-uk and Rhythmosaic invite you to an enchanting double bill evening of live music and dance, featuring leading exponent of Raagdari music and Kathak dance.
Whether you're new to South Asian performing arts, a passionate lover of music and dance, or a connoisseur of classical and contemporary expression, this evening promises a rare opportunity to experience the captivating interplay between musicians and dancers.
"By His Flute
" is a traditional Kathak dance recital by Mitul Sengupta, accompanied by live musicians. This performance intricately weaves together dance, music, and spirituality, centering on the dancer's deep invocation of 'Lord Krishna,' the supreme being who permeates all forms of consciousness. In this piece, the dancer surrenders to Krishna, offering her rigorous training, or ‘Riyaz,' as an expression of devotion, where dance becomes a harmonious union with the divine.
"Threading Distant Voices"
originated as a research project in residence with Yorkshire Dance and has evolved into a captivating performance piece. This work unites unique voices from diverse cultures, weaving their memories into a powerful physical narrative. It delicately explores the emotions of individuals encountering pivotal moments at the crossroads of life and time, offering a poignant reflection on shared experiences and connections across cultural boundaries.
Choreographed and directed by: Shambik Ghose and Mitul Senguta
Dancers: Mitul Sengupta (Kathak), Katie Thomas, Gracie Ashmore & Josh Haigh (Contemporary).
Musicians: Pandit Sanju Sahai (Tabla), Kaviraj Singh (Voice and Santoor) and Shubham Tageja (Bansuri).
