Baluji Shrivastav OBE

Baluji  is a foremost Indian multi-instrumentalist and composer who holds a particular mastery over the sitar, surbahar, dilruba, pakhavaj and tabla.
Blinded at just eight months old, Baluji would go on to attend the Gwalior Blind School in India, where in spite of initial hesitation from his teacher, he became acquainted with the sitar and swiftly displayed an innate gift for playing.

Over the course of his life and artistic journey, Baluji has been unstoppable in his defiance of stereotypes that have limited the access to artistic possibilities available to blind and visually impaired musicians.

As part of this mission, in 2008, he established the Baluji Music Foundation, a blind-led art organisation that has given professional opportunities, employment and support visually impaired musicians. In a further testament to Baluji's commitment to creating new opportunities for disabled musicians when no such were available, in 2012 he founded Inner Vision Orchestra, the world's only professional ensemble of blind musicians. There mesmerising music has taken them to some of the world's greatest stages, including the 2012 Paralympics.

Baluji's commitment to advancing inclusivity and diversity within the sphere of music has been greatly admired and celebrated through the many accolades he has received over the years. Most notably, Baluji was awarded the prestigious OBE title at the late Queens 90th Birthday Honour List for his services to music, and in 2019 he was the recipient of the Hind Rattan Award-Jewel of India.
