Shivani is SAA-uk's Digital Content Assistant, as well as a dancer and arts manager based out of Leeds. Originally from Mumbai, India, she began her movement journey at a very young age. She moved to Leeds in 2021 to pursue her MA in Dance and Creative Enterprise at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
It is through dance that she learnt to navigate the world and make sense of it. Today, her practice is a mix of kathak, contemporary dance and post-dramatic theatre. She wants to make feminist, interdisciplinary dance that explores narratives inspired by her lived experiences by blending these forms.
In 2018, she joined Beej Foundation, an interdisciplinary dance collective, as a dancer and core team member. At beej, she performed and devised interdisciplinary works based in Kathak. She helped organise and curate several dance-based events and talk shows there. She discovered that she enjoyed both performing on stage and delivering successful performances off stage. In Mumbai, she has also worked as a Course Advisor with Drama School Mumbai and as an Assistant Project Coordinator with Art X Company.
