Considered one of the finest Sitar players to emerge on the Indian Classical music scene in the UK, Roopa Panesar has received kudos from audiences and peers alike for her outstanding ability and quality of music. After successful tours in North America, Europe and the UK, Roopa’s soulful yet mature style of playing has left her listeners captivated and craving more.
Following rave reviews for her work on Talvin Singh’s Bombay Talkies, Roopa returned to Leeds to present a concert of Indian Classical music joined, on Tabla, by Shri Bhupinder Singh Chaggar. From an early age Roopa has been groomed in the finer nuances of Indian Classical music under the careful guidance of Sitar maestro and
educationalist Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE. She has also had the privilege to learn from legendary artists such as Pt Arvind Parikh, Ustad Shahid Parvez and Pt Bahauddin Dagar. Our series of presenting Women in Art would not of been complete without a performance from Roopa, and what better way to end the celebrations than with the production ‘Aurat’.
